Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community

Business and Enterprise

Our intent is to inspire our students to act and think like entrepreneurs, business owners and business executives.

Enterprise is the willingness of an individual or organisation to; take risks and control risk factors, show initiative and 'make things happen' as well as start a new venture or inject new life and drive into existing initiatives. Employers need employees with these skills. For some, entrepreneurship will lead to their own businesses. For others, self employment is often an option in many careers. Enterprise assists in developing these life skills, attitudes and behaviours and through the BTEC Tech Award in Enterprise we build learners competence through a mix of business theory and practical activities that assists them to build this mindset and practical business skills.

The course prepares students for future destinations by developing sector-specific knowledge and skills such as …

• aptitude in planning and carrying out an enterprise activity, including market research, planning, carrying out financial transactions, communication and problem solving

• the knowledge that underpins the effective use of these skills, such as the features and characteristics of enterprises and entrepreneurs, and the internal and external factors that can affect the performance of an enterprise

• attitudes and ways of working that are considered most important for enterprise, including communicating and interacting with customers, monitoring and reflecting on performance of enterprise and own use of skills.
