Our curriculum at Oasis Academy Don Valley is rich and vibrant, taught through cross curricular themes and projects. We are guided by the requirements of the National Curriculum but aim to create a sense of awe and wonder by using enrichment experiences with our children.
We prioritise the teaching of basic skills of numeracy, literacy and phonics in a well structured way which includes speech and language programmes tailored to meet the needs of our individual children.
Developing a love of reading is central to our curriculum design and Phonics is taught on a daily basis.
We ensure that Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural experiences thread through our curriculum themes and believe that they are integral to our everyday teaching. We promote British Values through our enhanced curriculum and also through our whole school assemblies, being guided by the Christian based Oasis values which permeate Academy life. RE is taught both discretely and thematically with the aim of children knowing "Who I am, Who I am becoming and Who will I be."
All children have timetabled PE lessons each week to cover the National Curriculum. A healthy lifestyle is promoted through PE and linked to other curriculum areas.
ICT is used in everyday teaching and is a critical learning tool in every aspect of our curriculum. Our children have access to interactive whiteboards and ipads for research purposes and to further enhance their learning.
We believe that every child is unique and through our curriculum we aim to promote respect for an ever increasing diverse culture. We aim to include learning opportunities that come from children's interests and the events that are happening in the world around them; we believe this will help to prepare them well for life in the future as respectful citizens.
