During Year 7, students will follow a curriculum where they will be taught the basis of invasion games through a multi-sports programme which includes football, basketball and rugby in half term 1. Half term 2 includes badminton, where they will learn the basic skills and how to outwit an opponent as well as strategies that will help them learn the rules and regulations of the sports they are participating in. Basketball and Netball will be taught in HT3 where footwork, spatial awareness and sports leadership will now be introduced. HT4 football and rugby will be recapped to ensure that progress has been made from previous experience and more in depth learning on attacking and defensive strategies will be the basis of these lessons. HT5 will include cricket and rounders so students can gain an insight into the concept of striking and fielding games as well as start to develop their sports leadership skills further. HT6 will finish the year off with athletics where students will learn individual skills in numerous events such as sprinting, middle distance running, shot putt, discus, and long jump. The curriculum is designed to give students a wide choice of sports to participate in and develop communication, leadership and social interaction skills.
