'It's a holly jolly Christmas', Oasis Academy Don Valley has found a great way to mark the festive season

Primary school children from an all-through academy situated in the heart of Sheffield are singing their hearts out to bring Christmas joy to families despite having Nativity plays ditched with their very own Christmas album.

Oasis Academy Don Valley certainly aren’t letting COVID restrictions get in the way of them being able to celebrate Christmas!

Due to the current restrictions, schools across the country have had to come up with new ways to share festive spirits within their ‘bubbles’.

Claire Michels, Head of Primary at Oasis Academy Don Valley, commented saying; “At this time of year we are normally just about to start our dress rehearsals for our Christmas production, I knew that this year I had to think of something different that could still go ahead in our current way of working…. my idea was to create ‘Now that’s what I call an OADV Christmas’ album. This collection of songs from each class is fantastic and will certainly lift spirits at this festive time. It makes you smile, and brings a tear to your eye at the same time.”

Each class ‘bubble’ has had a number of singing lessons to prep them in advance for the final recording of each song ahead of the final release which will be shared with parents and the community just in time for Christmas.

Miss Naylor, a Class Teacher at Oasis Academy Don Valley added; “I am incredibly proud of how well the children came together to perform their Christmas song. They all rose to the challenge and worked brilliantly as a team- and the end result is amazing!”

Pupils have loved every minute knowing that they are going to have their very own album. One pupil said; “I enjoyed the last chorus when we all came together and were having fun” with another adding; “I liked the end of the song because I enjoyed singing and having fun with my friends.”

Mr Lasonder, TA at Oasis Academy Don Valley said; “I was very impressed when I heard the class sing for the first time, this only got better every time we practised. It’s been lovely seeing how the music brought the group together.”

This holiday season, Oasis Academy Don Valley are also creating a number of hampers for families in need this Christmas. Can you help? They’re looking for donations of tins / packets / boxes of food. Find out more via their Crowdfunder Page HERE.
