We also marked the British Transplant Games, which are place in Sheffield from 6th – 9th August 2026, with the launch of a beautifully illustrated children’s book that follows a positive and inclusive kidney transplant journey called ‘A different kind of hero – Mona Zac’.

It is approved by NHS Blood and Transplant, the book is suitable for primary-aged pupils and offers a gentle, accessible way to explore the topic. An online version can be viewed here: https://heyzine.com/flip-book/68a73bedab.html.

The British Transplant Games, organised by Transplant Active, celebrate the gift of life and aim to raise awareness of organ donation across the UK. As part of their legacy work in Sheffield, the organisers are particularly keen to engage younger communities in conversations about the importance of organ donation. More information about their work can be found at: www.transplantactive.co.uk.

We were also honoured to be visited by Mahmud Nawaz, Chair of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, who came to speak to pupils about his personal organ donation journey. His story, combined with the launch of this new educational resource, offered a meaningful opportunity for our students to learn, reflect, and ask questions.
